Pregnancy is exciting for many couples, but can also be unexpected or even concerning. Either way, it is very important to begin seeing a doctor on a regular basis once you find out you are pregnant.
During the first visit, your doctor will work with you to determine a due date, take a health history, discuss any family medical history and determine any potential risk factors. He or she may also ask you to do bloodwork.
After this visit or during your second visit, your doctor will have you meet with a Patient Account Representative who can help you review your insurance plan so that you know what to expect financially, and can help connect you to government resources, such as Medicaid, if needed.
During your 10 -12 week visit, you should you able to hear your baby's heartbeat. You and your doctor will listen to the baby's heart beat at every visit after this. And, at 18-20 weeks, your doctor will schedule an ultrasound so that you may see your first baby pictures.
In general, the doctor will see you each month until the last 4-6 weeks of your pregnancy. Then, he or she will likely begin to see you more often as you create your birth plan and discuss healthcare for your baby once he or she is born. The doctors at Family Practice Associates deliver babies at both CHI Health Good Samaritan Hospital and Kearney Regional Medical Center, so the choice of locations will be yours, based upon your own wishes and your insurance plan.
We also have a nurse on staff to help with breastfeeding questions you may have. And, we are here to discuss future family planning, including birth control options, when you are ready.
At Family Practice Associates, we welcome Moms-to-Be and are excited to be part of this time in your life!
