A bone density test on our Dexa Scan can help determine if you have osteoporosis, a disease that makes your bones break more easily. A bone density test measures how much calcium and other minerals are in your bones. Doctors use a machine, which works like an x-ray machine, to scan your bones. Bone density tests are recommended for women over 65 years old, men over 70 years old and other people with certain risk factors, including a family history of osteoporosis, or a personal history of arthritis, early menopause, hormone treatment, kidney disease, easily broken bones, smoking, use of corticosteroid medications or alcohol use. People who have become shorter over time may also have or be at risk for osteoporosis.
