This quick, non-invasive scan works similarly to an X-ray and helps providers assess bone strength. Our clinic offers on-site X-ray and DEXA services, allowing imaging to be completed during your visit when appropriate. Services related to bone density testing may include:

Preventive Screening and Early Detection

Bone density testing may be recommended for some patients to help evaluate bone health and possible risk for osteoporosis. A DEXA scan measures bone mineral levels and can help identify changes in bone strength. Your provider may discuss this screening if you:

• Are a woman age 65 or older or a man age 70 or older
• Have experienced a bone fracture without significant injury
• Have a family history of osteoporosis
• Are receiving certain hormone therapies
• Have noticed a decrease in height

Other factors that may affect bone health include early menopause, certain medical conditions, smoking, long-term corticosteroid use, or regular alcohol use. During a visit, a provider can review your health history and discuss whether bone density testing may be appropriate.
