Most schools require wellness exams, and certain vaccinations, before a child enters seventh grade, high school, college, or participates in sports. Family Practice Associates and the American Academy of Pediatrics recommend annual exams for all teens to discuss age-specific concerns. The provider will do a physical exam as well visit with your teen about health issues such as their emotional well-being, developmental milestones, and discuss risky behaviors. The provider will also recommend the appropriate vaccinations.  Most insurance companies recognize that wellness visits are essential, and will pay for the wellness services and immunizations provided. If your teen has other issues that need to be discussed that are not related to wellness, out of pocket charges may occur.
